A Brand-New Community Choir Brings Heart, Soul and Song to Murton

A vibrant new chapter of community spirit and creativity has started in Murton with the launch of the MPower Choir, hosted at the Heart on the Terrace, Murton. The choir, led by award-winning vocal coach and BBC TV judge Sharon Hollingsworth, opened its doors last month—quickly filling the room with energy, laughter and an unmistakable buzz of excitement.

The very first session was a huge success, with 20 enthusiastic participants coming together to sing, move and connect. Described by attendees as “amazing,” the session set the tone for what promises to be an uplifting and empowering musical journey for everyone involved. The programme has been generously funded by Nomorenowt, helping to make the experience accessible to the community.

With professional experience in singing, performance and vocal coaching, Sharon is known for her dynamic approach—combining expert technique with infectious enthusiasm. Weekly sessions include a lively blend of vocal warm-ups, harmony work, progressive movement, and an eclectic mix of music from pop and rock to soul, disco and jazz.

Rehearsals have been so inspiring that the choir has already performed its debut public performance at Holy Trinity Church, Murton and the choir have co-written a song which captures the heart and soul of the project which will be recorded and released this year.

The MPower Choir meets every Tuesday from 1pm to 3pm at Heart on the Terrace, 8 Woods Terrace, Murton. New members are welcome, and no previous singing experience is required—just a desire to have fun and feel the joy of singing.
