Heart on the Terrace is a community hub in Murton, welcoming and supporting people four days a week. Founded in 2020 in partnership with Holy Trinity Murton, Heart on the Terrace joined Communities Together Durham in 2025.

Heart on the Terrace has grown into a trusted, much-loved space offering friendship, practical support, and hope to people across Murton and the surrounding villages. For many who walk through our doors, we are not just a service – we are a lifeline.

At its heart, Heart on the Terrace is about connection. We provide a safe, non-judgemental environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can be themselves, be listened to, and be cared for. No one should feel alone, hungry, or overlooked, and we work every day to ensure that doesn’t happen in our community.

We support low-income families and individuals with access to affordable food, clothing, children’s toys, and household items, as well as emergency food parcels when needed. We also signpost people to specialist organisations so they can get the right help at the right time. For those struggling with isolation, mental health challenges, or financial pressure, Heart on the Terrace offers understanding, dignity, and encouragement.

Heart on the Terrace is powered by compassion, community spirit, and generosity. Our work is sustained through grants, partnerships, and small contributions from affordable sales and suggested donations – always with the understanding that no one is ever turned away for lack of money.

With continued support, Heart on the Terrace will remain a place full of love, warmth, practical help, and hope – a true heart for our community.
